Q&A with Community Christian Baseball Player Eli Williams – Presented by Genesis of Norman

VYPE: What grade are you in, and what age did you start playing baseball?

Eli Williams: Going into my senior year and have been playing baseball since I was born.

VYPE: What position are you playing for CCS?

EW: I am a left-handed pitcher, play centerfield, and bat 3-hole.

VYPE: What is the strength of your skill set and what did you improve on the most this season?

EW: My biggest strength is my pitching because my competitiveness and live arm. Over the off season I developed a better change up and got my slider to be a little tighter when I need it to vs my sweeper that I throw more of.

VYPE: What makes CCS a great place for you as a student-athlete?

EW: The coaches truly care about every player on the team and it shows. I’m grateful to be around a coaching staff with all the experience that they have.

VYPE: What is your biggest challenge as a high school athlete?

EW: Dealing with the pressure that comes with the spotlight and learning that baseball is a game of failure but once learn how to deal with it, u can then become a winner.

VYPE: What does the support from your parents, coaches and fans mean to you?

EW: It means a lot and helps a ton that we have great fans and I have an amazing, supportive family that’s been there the whole time and will always be there, through the good and the bad. My dad also coaches, so it’s nice having him on the field with me.

VYPE: How do you mentally prepare yourself for competition?

EW: I just tell myself that I am the best player on the field at all times the way I prepare and the work that I put in gives me the confidence that I can beat anyone when I’m on the mound or in the box. If you don’t think you can win, you probably won’t.

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?

EW: I love how close we are, and we all have each other’s backs. We only want success for each other on and off the field.

VYPE: What’s the goal for life after high school?

EW: I’m going to play college baseball at either Ole Miss or Texas A&M, which I am still undecided on, but the ultimate goal is to get drafted and play professional baseball.

VYPE: Who inspires you on or off the field?

EW: My parents inspire me the most and push me to always be the best me I can be. They make sure I am always focused and on task.

VYPE: What accomplishment are you most proud of?

EW: I would say all the D1 offers that I have received. I was doubted a lot growing up and have been told by some that I was too small to pitch in D1 baseball, let alone the SEC!
